Default another wheel offset question

Sorry. This has probably been asked to death but, I can't seem to get it. I want a 18" wheel that is DD. Now I've seen various places with 18x9, 6.xx backspace, 36mm offset. Now, for example, if the offset is 50mm for the same wheel, would that wheel still be a "deep dish" or would it be a "flat" (positive offset) wheel? Or am I understanding this wrong?

Thanks

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/...jsp?techid=101&

The stock wheels on our S197's (at least the 2 I'm familiar with) are between 45mm and 50mm offset. With a 36mm offset, the tire will sit that much farther OUT from the hub face.
