Every 6 months for me using Pennzoil Platinum. Every 5K for my 3 SUVs. Have only used synthetics for past 30 years with absolutely no regrets.

Equally important are filters. Here's an interesting analysis I ran across:

+1 that this is a beaten, age old discussion with no black or white answers.

I have owned about a dozen vehicles with most seeing over 150,000 miles and some over 200,000 miles. Having used both dino oil at 3,000 mile oil changes and synthetics at 10,000 mile oil changes my experience is that both afford equal longevity of an engine when changed at an appropriate frequency. Synthetics will afford you less frequent oil changes only. Considering I used to average about 2,000 miles/month on a single vehicle, my decision to switch to synthetic was so not to be under tha car every 6 weeks, nothing more. I've been involved in oil sampling programs for various non-combusting type machines and the same general rule applies: oil will last longer than most people realize and that the equipment manufacturer's recommended oil change frequency is set overly conservatively.

If you're using synthetic blend, then the 7500 mile oil change frequency recommended by Ford is, IMO, very reasonable. If you're spending the extra $$ for synthetic and changing it at or before 8000 (or even 10,000) miles, I'm sure you're making the oil companies very happy. You're not the only ones sleeping better at night.

I have almost 12000 miles on the Amsoil 0w20 in my car...

I will send in a sample , I plan on changing it in the next 1000 miles.

and knowing what I know now even if I were to switch to a different "high-end" oil I would still buy the Amsoil EA oil filters

here is why...

Vavoline oil filter

Amsoil oil filter

Think that filter is supposed to be good for like 25k miles, although I would never test that out.

You guys are gonna think I'm crazy, but I change my oil every 6 months, which amounts to about 1500 miles for me. I use Mobil one full syn and K&N oil filters. I've used this combo on every mustang I've ever owned because I've been inside high mileage motors that only run synthetic and motors that only regular oil and there is definitely a difference in the amount of wear, most notably on the rings. I know my intervals are a bit obsessive, but I'm a perfectionist. (Plus it helps that laying under my car on a piece of cardboard is sort of "zen" for me.)

I'm sure the filter will last that long, but there is bound to be a bunch of gunk in it cutting down the flow to your engine. I'd rather change the filter every 5,000 and run the oil longer.
