definitely agree with that, if the gears force an extra shift you're losing time and then it's kinda a waste.

Stock tire overall diameter is 27.17 inches (235/55/17 tire)

255/45/18 = 27.03 in

305/45/18 = 28.80 in

305/40/18 = 27.60 in

305/55/18 would be 31.20 in or 4 inches taller than stock.

true, I was just going by the tire calculator on www.discounttiredirect.com

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...foTireMath.jsp

one thing I've noticed that people need to keep in mind is that every manufacturer varies a little in their sizing. if you're really worried about the size or rubbing you really need to look up the specs on the exact tire you're looking at, not just the general size rating.

if you go onto www.tirerack.com and find the tire you want if you click on 'specs' it'll give you the exact manufacturer's specs for that tire, not just the general size. with my last car I ran 255 rears and some manufacturers would vary up to an inch in the actual width and up to a half inch in the overall height. here's an example with a 295-45-18 since tirerack doesn't list a 305-45-18.
