Conventional Oil in the 2010 Mustang GT?
Hello all,
Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I just bought myself a 2010 Mustang GT Premium, and I'm anxiously awaiting delivery since it has to be ordered from the factory.
I'm a do-it-yourself oil change guy, and was wondering if conventional oil can be used in this year's GT model? Not that I am being cheap or anything, but I'm just curious since it seems that the manual can be confusing in terms of parts/fluid recommendations.
I know that the owner's manual recommends synthetic blend and/or full synthetic, but most dino oils meet the Ford WSS-M2C930-A spec, which is also stated by the manual.
I'll most likely end up using a full synthetic, but I'd just like to know if it would be overkill or not.

Just for comparison, if you look at the Shelby GT500 manual for 2010 (which is available on Ford's website), they directly say that you should use a synthetic oil.
Do you have a credible source that states this?

Synthetic is never a bad thing. If you can afford it, then use it, but if cost is prohibitive, you can run conventional in the 4.6.
Most domestics that use synthetics use Mobil 1, and it will usually say such on the oil fill cap.

I noticed that the dealership that had been doing my "free" oil changes had been using a blend oil. I assume it's the one mentioned and not a full synthetic.
If you change your own oil why do an expensive synthetic? How often would you change it?
My 2008 manual lists oil changes at every 7,500 miles
I assume that's with the blend Motorcraft oil
How long would you go with a full synthetic? I assume the purpose of a synth is so you can put more miles on between changes, and is used by people who drive a lot.
Has that changed?

To do this with a synthetic would seem like a waste of both money and good oil.
If I had a synthetic, I'd most likely extend oil changes to about six months. Again, it would be difficult for me to do so, given how much I enjoy frequent changes.
