Default New GT/CS Bumper Installed...

I just picked up the car this morning and everything looks good. I wanted to know how long I should wait before I clean the bumper really well. My one buddy just had his whole car painted and was told to wait 30 days before a wax. I forgot to ask about this before I left the body shop. Any ideas?

Wait 30 days to use wax. I used to use a sealant or something when I finished up cars when I detailed them at a body shop. I think the thing that ruins the paint is that it cant fully dry when there is a cover over it. Anyway yea, dont wax it for a month but you can clean it and whatever.

30 days is good but if you can hold off for longer the better. It takes a long time for paint to fully cure and depending on temps in your area you may have to wait up till 90 days before your first waxing

Did they used water based paint to paint it?

Oh and did they bake the paint after spraying it?

I will have to give the shop a call, I do not know the answer to those questions.

Quality of materials have gone down considerably the last 10 years, but that didn't stop the prices from quadrupling.
The wacko EPA have made regulations so stupid that nothing gets hard properly anymore and materials are still curing 3 months later!
Even high build primers are sh#t anymore. Everything shrink, blister and bleed through.

Not easy for shop owners when you have to deal with car rental on collision work...
Insurance companies won't give you an extra day or two because materials aren't totaly cured.

So, it used to be OK to wait 30 before waxing, but now I would wait (2 months) more because of the curing problems I just memtioned.

As a consumer you never think about the things you mentioned, Pascal. It makes me appreciate even more that the owner of the shop went beyond my expectations and was able to get me a new bumper, and a CS bumper at that (I am paying the difference). My original bumper could have been repainted, but he saw that car did not have a mark on it and that I wanted a new bumper so he made it work.

I will get some pics up when it stops raining. I feel like it rains everyday here in MD.

I guess the good things about wrecks, is that you can mod the car in the reparation process, without going broke.
