Oil residue on back left shock

So I was painting my calipers the other day and noticed oil residue on the back left shock. Wiped it away and figure I'll monitor it, but any ideas on what I should do? Thanks

see if it comes back, then look for a source.

Most likely the shock has failed. It will have to be replaced.

R U sure it was indeed oil? maybe something from the road was thrown onto the shock? But the above comments are correct!

I would say your shock is done. BUt you could wipe it off and go for a ride to see if anymore comes out.

Ive been driving it since, car still handles fine. haven't checked again though...probably should go do that

its where the oil is
the shock has a top and bottom, the bottom slides into the top making the top have a larger diameter
if there is a full way around oil mess only on the bottom shock the shock is leaking and needs to be replaced
if there is partial minimal leaking from the botom only the shock is weaping and should be watched but does not need to be replaced
if there is oil on the top part of the shock aswell the oil is probably kicked up from somewere else and should be cleaned and moniterd as normal.
the top part of the shock wont get oil on it from leaking, it will leak down onto the bottom inside shaft.
even if the shock is leaking it may not be trash, if you care to you can actually test and reseal or valve rather then replace... but then again i would never dyno my shocks. just go buy some koni adjustables and call it a day if your converned

squawskier1080 06-17-2009 09:09 PM

haha, okay I might do that. what do you think of these?

07musclemustang 06-20-2009 03:09 AM

yeah there dspecs. there a good piece but konis are better and will last longer and have better adjustability.
definatly cheaper up front but you might end up having to "re-buy" parts. thats never cheaper. didnt daddy say if your gonna do it, do it right the first time?
if your really interested sam is a sponsor here and is a really good guy. when your ready to drop some dough, give him a call and he'll tell you what to buy for your specific desire. you'll need to know that too. lower, how low? comfortable yet can take corners, all out race, race but able to drive on a daily basis. 1/4 mile killer, 1/4 mile/ street. axel deflection?
suspension is a personal thing and strano can tell you what you need and DONT.
