Default How do I remove the passenger side aluminum dash bezel?

How do I remove the passenger side aluminum dash bezel? The part on the right side of the two horizontal dash panels that cover the air bag.

I know there are two clips that hold the right side, but how do I pop the left side of the piece off?

My car is in the shop for engine problems, but I wanted to know how to do this when I get it back.

I have a rattle coming from this piece, I am going to pad it. I've taken it to the dealer twice with no luck so I figured I'll give it a shot.

you have to pull the two horizontal pieces with the airbag out. there is one bolt behind the glove compartment and then you just pull it out, there are alot of clips holding it in. then you will see two screws holding on the piece that you want to get out.

Before you do, pull out the vent and check the black plastic collar just inside the vent tube. I thought my dash piece was rattling too, and it turned out to be the inside piece of the vent tube.

Ummm, do yourself a big favor and disconnect your battery before you go jacking with the airbag power connector.

to pull the vent out: open the vent and put two fingers inside of it on each side with your thumbs on the trim ring and pull. just the trim ring with the vents come out. not hard.

He's trying to remove the whole panel, not just the vent. You have to remove the airbag to expose the two bolts on the right side of the vent panel.

The vent idea was INSTEAD OF the panel. The point of checking was that it might not be the panel at all, in which case it would be unneccesary to remove the panel.

Yes, and once you do this, you'll see that the inside of the vent tube is lined with a plastic collar which is what the vent clips into. That collar fits into the tube fairly snugly, but can give just enough to create a squeaking or rattling sound. If you press on the tube, the vent, or even the dash, it can distort the shape of the vent tube enough to stop the squeaking.

I tried a few ways to make it fit more snugly, but the only one that worked and stayed fixed, was to spray some insulation foam into the tight gap between the collar and the vent tube. It expanded and filled the gap. Careful where you spray it though. The vent still needs room to spin around in there.

Or it may just be your dash panel after all. But at least you'll have tried the easy fix first.
