Mine lasted 2 years. It went out in the middle of my new Navi/DVD player install. So when I finished and went to start the car to pull out of the garage..... Nothing..... After my panic attack, I realized it was the battery and not my wiring.

If i have my stereo on for more than about 15min without the car running chances are the battery will not start the car and i have a shaker 500. I do still have the original battery but it will soon be changed. Yep, in florida a battery over 2 yrs old is running on barrowed time.

The battery in our S197 or whatever is it that drains them, must be the biggest fluke. I have a 1999 Ford Ranger with the same battery and never had a problem...that's 10 yrs worth of starting, listening to radio, etc, etc...and that battery still going strong...

My battery died in less than year. I do have the shaker 500 along with my car not being a DD (low miles and sits for extended periods). I am sure both of those contributed to the early failure. And now my shaker CD player has died with that infamous "CD Error" failure. Plan to replace it under warranty, but will upgrade the stereo down the road when it fails again.

There apparently is a run of Motorcraft batteries that have very poor capacity due to lousey manufacturing. I was talking to an Interstate distributor this past weekend and he laughed when I mentioned Motorcraft batteries and our issues. He concured that Ford uses a crappy manufacturer.

Mine died recently so I went and got a bosch battery (I think) bastard was expensive, like 80 dollars. Battery came with a 3 year warranty though so it should be good.
The battery before it went out had TONS of corrosion around the negative post. I hear the batteries on the fords in general are terrible.

2 years and 2 months. That's exactly how long the stock battery lasted on my 05 GT.
One suggestion that may extend your battery's life is to always switch the stereo unit from the CD mode to the Radio mode, and then turn it off manually before turning off the ignition.
This procedure prevents the stereo from sometimes staying on when the ignition is turned off without manually turning off the stereo first.
