Default Do our cars lower themselves over time?

I know it's kind of a silly question.

Since I got my car, the first thing I noticed was how ridiculously high the stock suspension sits. Sadly, this suits me quite well on these pothole-laden Puertorican roads.

But lately I've kind grown "self conscious" about my car compared to other s197's (you've all been through this phase, admit it), and I've noticed that older 05-06 models sit quite low, and it can't possibly be due to lowering springs involved. Most of the models I've seen were completely bone stock (down to the tinny muffler tips), filthy as dirt, and driven by old people and trophy wives. I've never gotten a chance to sit next to one at a stoplight and ask them about their cars. I'm thinking maybe the shock wear, and daily heat slowly eat away at the springs resistance and make them drop on their own. Maybe I don't have to worry about buying lowering springs and I should just wait it out.

So any insight from those early '05 models lurking around? Have you kept the stock springs and noticed them lower on their own?

Well, I know when you put aftermarket springs it, it can take a few weeks for the springs to break in and meet their specs. I guess it could happen with a new car, but I'm not sure. Either way, it's not going to be anything significant.

I thought mine sat lower than others until I had it next to lowered stangs and mine looked like an SUV compared to them.

Or maybe it's one of those undocumented "revisions" Ford did for 2007+ models. They may have jacked up the springs.

That comments gives me an idea. I've never had a picture of my car taken with me in it. Maybe my 200lbs+ give it a nice drop.

I'm sure our springs (ANY springs for that matter) will develop SOME sag over time but I doubt it would be enough to consider the car as being lowered; my silly-azz guess is that they might sag by about 1/4-1/2" over a long time. And since our Stangs are comparatively light, we might not see that much. Just my 2 cents...

Yes and no.
It depends on the load she carries daily.
Got 500LBS of junk in the trunk?
How bout the stangs trunk?
Is it full of golf clubs and such?
An 05 thats a saggin has been overloaded
by double the carrying capacity a few times
too many. Older cars sag. Newer S197s are
not old enough to be saggin from age...

Yes Qui Chang, the springs do lower about a 1/2 inch, and remember, sometimes when your looking at others driving and in traffic, the car is slightly lower because of passenger weight, and you are looking at your car without weight when your not in it.

I'm lowered 1" on Saleen springs, and live in Detroit, so bad roads is no reason to let this issue stop you from getting lowered on Saleen springs or Roush springs. They allow less dip for bumps, so you will not bottom out on those two brands of springs. I assure you.

Put an end to this torturous comparison and get lowered MAN! Erik
