How to hardwire a radar detector?
#3
I've never done one on a Stang, but I have done them on other vehicles. Usually the best place is to wire them in to a switched 12v line on the fuse box. That way, the elec system and the detector/GPS is protected. Just make sure you use a line that has the correct current rating; ie you wouldn't want to wire a device rated at .5A into a 15A circuit.
Usually the easiest circuit to use is the ones for the cig lighters, but like I said, I have limited experience on this particular application. Maybe someone with more stang knowledge can chime in too. Hope this helps.

There should be a 12V outlet at the top center of the dash, right below the shroud lip (almost like it was put there for radar detectors, er, GPS units). If you're planning on opening the dash anyway, you might be able to tap into that. I don't recall off-hand what it's fused at, though.

I might be wrong, but I don't think that the dome lights are 12v, which you would need to wire most car accessories.
