Default Broke My E-brake... am i screwed?

Today When i got home, and when i parked I pulled my E-brake to hard and broke it. When i pulled my e-brake up, it comes back down by itself.

I am really worried since its a stick shift.

Is this problem severe?? is this something i could fix at home? or should i take it at a mechanic shop???

let me know.

Thank you!

climb under there and take a look where the cable comes into the block that splits to either side. Next to the drive shaft. You most likely snapped the end off of it. The cable runs from there to the handle, not horribly hard to replace.

Im not sure how to fix it but inregards to being stick. When my were locking up in the winter (sticking parking brake tsb) i put it in 1st or Reverse and never pulled the brake because i was scared of it sticking. I had it on a slight hill, enough for the car to roll and it never budged. I brought a brick with me incase i needed to park on a big hill to put under the tire but got it fixed in time.

Also i don't know if all years have it, there is a small panel you can pop off in the center consol that shows parking brake cable going in to the lever incase it poped off there

I'd simply take it in to have it looked at. I doubt it's anything costly unless they have to get into the center console. In the meantime, be sure to put the car in gear, turn the front wheels towards a curb and, if you're still not comfortable, chock a wheel.
