How often are you hard on your car........
By hard I mean getting up to 5500rpm through at least the first three gears. I find my self doing this like once maybe twice a week is this really that bad?

That's a pretty subjective statement. I've had quite a few friends who beat on their Mustangs and were in need of new trannies and other big items by 50,000 or so miles. I wouldn't say the Mustang is any more tolerant of abuse than any vehicle out there. It stands to reason that a vehicle that's been beat on will have a shorter life than a vehicle that's been taken care of. Don't get me wrong, I use the power in my car as often as I can, but I know there is a price to pay down the road depending how much I'm "using it".
Case in point, I have a 90 Ranger with 266,000 miles on. Been pretty much babied since day one, still on the original engine and tranny.

Probably too much. I take mine to the drag strip A LOT and I set my tune to shift at 6,500 RPM (automatic). Then I autocross a bunch and go WOT on the street more than once every day. Only thing I'm really worried about is the tranny (especially with it being auto) and the tune has it shifting so hard. I've vowed to myself to take it easy on her for a while until I have the money to replace it with a GT500 6 spd incase/when I screw up the auto. It's my one and only daily driver.

Maybe 5 times in a week, but normally only through 1st and 2nd. 5500?? More like 6200-6500 with the brenspeed tune lol
