To flash tune, or not to flash tune... Thats my question.
My name is Zac, I'm new to the Mustang world. My previous project was a 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin turbo that i built up through high school and turned into a total beast. I just recently bought a 2007 Mustang GT Premium with the 4.6L V8. Ive already added a catback exhaust and am looking to add a cold air intake soon. My question though involves Flash Tuners. Ive heard a lot of good things about them, but was wondering if you all could clarify some things.
1) Will it void a factory warranty? 2) Could i change it back to factory specs? 3) Would it require strengthening my internals? 4) What kind of hp and torque gains could i expect? Keep in mind that i also have a budget of about $1k right now. If you have any products you recommend I could do with that as well. Thanks, -Zac |
Welcome the Mustang World! check out brenspeed or bama chips site they both have a CAI and tune combo.
Yes you can load back to factory settings. As long as you load up the stock settings before taking car in to dealer for service, that's what I do. You can gain about 20-25 hp with the CAI tune combo and you can feel the gains with those two mods. I think It's the best first mod next to gears and tune IMO. I Think for around $600 you can get the CAI and tune combo. so that still leaves you with some extra money to play with. |
Oh and I use to have a Z31 turbo With full bolt ons. It was a fun car till the motor blew:icon_doh:! I always wanted a Z32 TT but never got one. Is your GT auto or manual?

Dude, if you buy a car like a GT its gotta be standard. So yeah, manual. lol

Welcome to the forum. All your questions can be answered by the search feature but here's the rundown:

Hehe just wondering cause I was going to say I heard good things about the flash tunes on auto. But yeah I know what you mean. So yeah check out those site's and see what you like I don't think it matters what CAI intake you get that's really up to you.

Thanks for the help. I appriciate it.

FYI, adding the CAI w/o a tune will likely cause you to throw a code, even with some of the CAI's that claim to not require a tune. Our PCM's can only adjust for so much air with a stand-alone CAI that it'll often lean out. The tune is the bigger power adder of the 2; roughly 80% from the tune and 20% from the CAI.

Alright. That was gonna be my next question. Thanks man
