Default Heat Shield above mid pipe...needed?

Ok ...so the rattle issue has lead me to this piece as well ! LOL Got the trunk squared away.. then under the car I noticed my heat shield right above the mid pipe is not loose but only held in by two UBBER tinny bolts... Is this needed and if so why ..? thanks

Without getting under my car, I'd have to say that ANY heat shield between the body and any portion of the exhaust should not be removed unless you're darned sure the heat won't cause problems. I'd figure out a way to stop the rattle (if that's the problem) before removing the shield.
