Theyre supposed to be spring keepers for the A/C quick disconnect lines. They help keep the spring expanded in the coupler to aid in keeping it locked. But all four fingers always break of after a while and they fall out. Dont worry about it I seen hundreds of cars like that. thats why you see those big clamps in your pic, thats the new failsafe.
They are assembly aids at the factory. After assembly, they are no longer needed and can be discarded. The factory doesn't take the time to remove them as once the lines are connected, they're looking ahead to the next car in line.

+1, you remove them, I always mean too but damn it i just keep forgetting. lol
Of course you could leave them there. Thirty years from now, they'll be desired parts by those looking to to do a complete restoration. Reproduction A/C assembly rings will probably fetch $15 each!

I've always wondered what these were, thank you for the info! If I posted up a couple pics of a few things on my 08' GT, do y'all(TDC71/everyone on this board) could help me identify the parts? Sorry, that is a extremely vague question...I really just want to learn more about my car, and there are a few parts in the engine bay/etc. that just have me scratching my head lol...sorry, I'm just an extremely curious person
