Default Question about axle moan

I just wanted to make sure that my symptoms are consistent with the common axle moan TSB affecting the clutch packs.

I had 4.10s installed about a year ago. No whining or vibrations.....perfect install. I went with the correct royal purple fluid, with the Ford friction modifier as well. About a month ago, I noticed a short moan/groan from the rear end. It only does it when I first pull out of my parking spot in the mornings. It only does it once, real quick, and then it doesn't do it again. Eventhough it does it while my wheel is turned (which is typical of the problem), it sometime doesn't do it until i'm going straight. this happens maybe once or twice a week at most. When turning sharply at slow speeds, I can't replicate the noise.

Could it just be a slight wear of the clutch packs? Is this dangerous, or just annoying? could my fluid be a bit low? I haven't noticed any leaks since 4.10 install, but i do have some residue from the axle overflow valve.

Thanks for any help!!

Strange that is still does it with the friction modifier. I first ran royal purple without friction modifier for awhile, and got the low speed groans on turns. Added friction mod and like you, most of the time there is no noise, but once in awhile there is a little groan.
Fluid level is correct.

+1...it speeds up the process of impregnating the clutch packs with the fluid and friction modifer.

My car makes a groaning sound when I turn the wheel and pull away, my mechanic told me to do figure 8's, I thought he was b/s ing me, so I didn't do it, but I will next time I drive it. Is there a TSB for this problem? I have an 06 GT with 9000 miles on it.

Yeah, its rebuilding the clutch packs and/or adding friction modifier. Usually just adding fric modifier solves it.

should i try throwing in a bit more friction modifier eventhough the tech "supposedly" used it in the original install? i'd like to avoid a fluid change, but would it be necessary?

You can buy a 4oz bottle for $5 or less. Then put in like half a bottle, or whatever will fit w/o running out the fill hole.
They might have 'said' they put some in, but unless they charged you for it, it wasn't added. Or even if charged for, it might not have been added.
LIke I posted before, even with Royal Purple, it can groan, as mine did a little now and then. But it groans no more, and I think I only put maybe 3 of the 4 oz in from the bottle.
