Smile Home-made Gas Cap Hook

Recently we discussed that there is a hook on our gas tank door that you could use for the gas cap, but many have experienced a difficulty in getting the cap to reach or even stay on it. Someone on this forum suggested using hooks, so I went to the Dollar Store and used a can of spray paint and made my own.

This is the hook that is on your gas door, but is a pain to make it work;

Here is my home-made hook;

My 08 has a very specific hook for the cap, they must have changed it in 08.

That thing you originally had your gas cap hanging on was not intended to be a hook.

LOL, yeah. The oem hook, it not a hook. Pretty sure its what hits the rubber stops when the door is closed. You can even see the little dirt circle on it from when it meets up with the stopper. You can also see its twin at the bottom of the door which has the same purpose.

Anyway, nice job. I just let mine hang. I would think it can be tough to grab it from the hook without getting gas on your hand unless you're left handed.

my '09 has a hook from the factory that works perfect but if it didn't have the hook I'd be stealing your idea

I'm ready to cut the tether from the gas cap. Sometimes it binds up around the cap when putting on or taking off and pulls the gas door closed on me. just a little annoying
