that public radio article is a good read but what's in the papers is not always what really happens. A lot of political battles are fought in the media.

The closest thing to Chinese manufacturing in the US is the Equinox (made in China engine).

Wiring harnesses are manufactured all over the place because they are all labor, there isn't a machine that can make them as of yet. If you did make them in the US they would cost ~10k/each.

For me I still will not voluntarily put something made in China in my car and I try like hell to not purchase things made in china when I have other options. Other people have other opinions and there is no way to get around made in China completely but I was just wondering if anyone else had a problem with paying over $200 for a shifter that's made in China and is obviously low on quality.

Not only are many car parts made in China, but many things made here are owned by China. IBM, Maytag, and the list is endless.

What he said. If your trying to tell me that every part made in China is used steel and poorly crafted, I for one can prove you wrong. If your trying to tell me you've never bought a poorly made "Made in the U.S." part, your lying to me.

This kind of blatant, blind "patriotism" is far from what I consider being a patriot.

You got what I said wrong. I'm responding to fivespcats statement that he's wrong, and that very little american auto parts come from there. He is wrong about that because lots of parts do come from there, and they work good. I don't think twice about buying products from China. $^!+ the wheels I had and the ones I replaced them with come from there. I like them, and I didn't think twice about it. I was just pointing out to him that China is connected to products he isn't even aware of.
