Waiting for 2011 V6 vs buying a discounted GT now

* 3.7L V6 to be rated at 315 horsepower: Same as 2010 GT
* No immediate plans for EcoBoost V6 Mustang due to small horsepower gap between EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 (365 vs 400)
* 2011 Mustang GT to be rated at 400 horsepower, will get increase in 2012
* 2011 Mustang GT to get 6-speed transmission and variable valve timing
* 2011 Mustang GT Track Pack to include Brembo brakes
* 2011 Shelby GT500 to get Aluminum Block
* Next special edition: 2012 Boss

V-6 wieghs almost same as a GT.
less HP
no real aftermarket for it besides Nitrous
I'd get a cheap 05/06 GT right now. You hook it up with more HP and TQ than a 2011 model for under $4,000. most guys running the Brenspeed kit are putting down 420 RWHP.
that will easily offset any HP difference between current and future vehicles. and for 1/2 the price or less if you shop around.
I've had a V-6 stang before. fun little car...but I won't go there again

Anyways back on topic I'd go for the GT now, torque is what really matters and the V6 isn't going to make near the torque of the GT.

I'm torn between buying a whatever GT I can grab right now (lots of 2006 go for around $16-18000)
Many people say that it's stupid to buy a used GT (S197) now because next spring there will be V6s that will have more power... but a few things come to mind.
1. V6 models have always been boulevard cruisers, pigs with suspension tweaked for your hemorrhoids comfort rather than handling. You'd have to invest a lot of $$$ to make it handle like a V8.
2. Even though V6 will probably have a few more HP, but more than likely it will have a lot less torque due to ~1L less displacement.
3. The sound. V6 is not a V8.
4. The price. New V6s, even if they will cost within $1000 of the 2010 model, are more likely than not to be hot, and won't go anywhere close to invoice. Add destination charges and dealer fees etc... The gap between a used GT and new V6 becomes even wider.
5. The styling. Front: 2010 > 2009 but rear end 2009 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2010.
6. Mods. They are available for S197s NOW. Most likely than not, it will be a while before the market starts making mods for new engines.
7. The time of realese. Noone knows. When people say "spring" one might think March (the best scenario). But it could as well be May. Or even later (when the cars actually start appearing on dealer lots in sufficient quantity) That much wait might not be worth it.
A lot of this is pure speculation, and a lot of this has something to do with me wanting to get a Stang NOW, but I can wait till spring. I'm just trying to convince myself, I'm not doing a mistake by waiting for 2011s. The S197s GTs are relatively cheap now, and I can add the warranty for another grand if I want to.
What do you think about it?

I bought a V6 because I was not looking for a race, I loved the look of the S197 and this is perfect for me.

400 hp is a huge number NA out of the current engine platform or even anything close to it, I don't care if you make the engine a 5.0 unless they are coming out with a totally different engine I don't see it happening. with all the aftermarket parts out there its very difficult to get the 4.6 platform to 400 hp, and certainly would not be something the factory would sell as stock. I think to get that kind of number they need something with at least 350+ ci, do you see ford doing that?? I don't, they seem more worried about fuel economy even with the GT.

I've heard a lot of talk about the horsepower increases of both the V6 and GT but have seen nothing definitive from Ford. Does anyone actually have something announced by Ford or is this all just conjecture?
With the EPA rulings on fuel economy it would be difficult for Ford to comply if they jump the hp in both versions of the Mustang.
I would just like to see the facts from Ford rather than wishful thinking in the forums.
If you have the facts please share with the links.
Thank you,

Yes its 315 hp but it still isnt totally confirmed AND... there wont be as much torque. It will (I am guessing) still have inferior suspension parts and drivetrain parts. Like the old saying goes
"There is NO replacement for DISPLACEMENT"
Thats one of the reason chevys huge motors respond well to mods.

They made a huge mistake with those new rear ends that look like a camry. I would stick with the S197 model. Don't get all caught up in the HP numbers game. I have LOTS of HP in my C6 Z06 but there's more to owning and enjoying a car than just how much torque or HP it produces. If you can tolerate the new design then maybe the newer model is right for you. The sad part is now we're stuck with this new body style for a few years. Probably 5. How would you like to walk up to this every day: My appologies to those here who own one.
