Default ==== Idle fluctuations when stopped -need advice ====

I am having an issue with idle fluctuations when stopped at lights and when coasting. When I stop the RPMs go down to 500 and every 2 to 3 seconds rev up between 700/1000. It is subtle but something new that is not normal.

On a side not (not sure if it is related). Sometimes when in first gear, my car will jerk like she just wants me to pounce on the throttle (as if I was tapping on the gas) so I find myself shifting to second well before I want to.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I value everyone's opinion.

If you've recently reloaded a tune or reset the adaptive learning, then give it a few cruises to settle down. If not, then clean your TB. I'm not sure about the tranny jerk. I suspect it may be related to the RPM fluctuations.

Good idea NUKE. I recently changed my battery so I wonder if it is an issue with the tune. I will reset the tune and let you all know what I find out.

Changing the battery will not change the tune but WILL reset the adaptive learning. Just put a few miles of mixed driving on her and it should settle down.

Could possibly be a dead cell in the battery or a vacuum leak.

Here is the exact wording copied directly from the owner's manual:
Because your vehicle’s engine is electronically controlled by a computer, some control conditions are maintained by power from the battery. When the battery is disconnected or a new battery is installed, the engine must relearn its idle and fuel trim strategy for optimum driveability and performance. To begin this process:

1. With the vehicle at a complete stop, set the parking brake.
2. Put the gearshift in P (Park) (automatic transmission) or the neutral
position (manual transmission), turn off all accessories and start the engine.
3. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
4. Allow the engine to idle for at least one minute.
5. Turn the A/C on and allow the engine to idle for at least one minute.
6. Drive the vehicle to complete the relearning process.

• The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles (16 km) or more to relearn the idle and fuel trim strategy.
If you do not allow the engine to relearn its idle trim, the idle
quality of your vehicle may be adversely affected until the idle
trim is eventually relearned.

+1.

furthermore, check your oil level and make sure its dooky brown, not tar black!

The Owner's Manual is a wonderful thing. Contray to popular belief, it will NOT spontaneously combust if exposed to the human eye.

06SSilverGT, tar black oil does NOT indicate BAD oil. Visually, you cannot tell if an oil's protective properties are depleted. I used to be involved in oil analysis and many cars oil will turn black THOUSANDS of miles before the oil should be changed. It's simply part of the combustion process but is not harmful in and of itself.

I had this exact issue. While driving through my parking garage it would jump in first gear at low speed and I looked like jackass trying to show off.

Also at idle it would bounce up and down.

The solution to fixing this in my case was cleaning the throttle body. 10 minutes later it was a new car.

How many miles do you have?
