Question Help the Dummy - Tire question

OK. I have looked at the posts on this type of question and I just need someone to tell me in plain english.......

I have a 295/45/18 in the rear. If I go to a 305/35/18 will I have less sidewall than my current tire (295/45) but more than a 285/40/18?

Thanks guys!

based on the ratings, the sidewall height on the tires will be:
295/45 133mm (5.24")
305/35 106mm (4.17")
285/40 114mm (4.48")

so the 305/35 will be less than both of the others.

Ok, I should keep biting my tongue but I can't... AND I'm sure to get flamed (again) for saying this but 20's on our Stangs look ghetto. One of the beautiful things about our Stangs is the retro look and a tire with such little sidewall, even on stock 17" and 18" wheels, looks inept. Give me 16's with a nice sidewall and RWL's. Yeah, it'll screw up handling but, DAMN, it looks so good!

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it...

Thanks guys! I like the sidewall....don't want to lose it. I'm looking at some diff sizes to see what I can get the best deal on.

Thanks again!

A 255/45 is 4.51" more than the 285 and the 305. I wonder if you can put a 255 on a 10" rim? then I could rotate my tires and get some pure drags.

255's might be a little too tight for a 10" rim....it would stretch out and not look/wear right either.

Your right. I'd have to buy and put on 18X9's.

Think I'm just going to sitck with the 295's. Anything else will force me to put a lower drop on it.

255 on a 10" would look so bad, it ain't funny...
I don't think it'd be safe either because a tight turn would make the tire bead come tight off the rim. Outch!

To give you an idea, I'm running 275 on a 8.5" rim up front, lol.
