Some things I would definitely do are:

1: Disconnect the battery
2: Jack Stands
3: Fuel Stabilizer
4: Fresh Oil Change

First of all....a BIG THANK YOU!

Serving your country is a BIG sacrifice!

Follow pretty much what everyone else is saying here.

Fresh oil change
Fuel Stabilizer (on a 1/2 tank then fill it up and run it for 20 minutes)
Disconnect battery (Store it on a piece of wood, not on the concrete)
Car cover both inside an out.
Vacuum interior THOUROUGHLY
Since you are going for 1 year, jack stands are a good idea. If not, inflate with nitrogen to the max pressure and then add a couple of PSI.
Some people have suggested steel wool in the tail pipes. This keeps out critters.
Some people also put in fabric softener sheets inside to keep the interior smelling nice.
