The gear ratios are different in the auto and manual transmissions. A 3.73 gear in an auto is about equal to a 3.90 gear in a manual. If you put 4.10s in an auto it equals about 4.30 or so gear ratio in a manual. I wouldn't go higher than 3.73 in an auto and definitely not 4.10s. I had an 06GT with an auto and 3.73s and first gear went by real fast and it was very easy to get the stock sized tires spinning in the rain when pulling away from a stop. 4.10s in an auto might be fun in the dry, but you'd have traction problems in the wet and the rpms on the highway would drive you crazy at speeds over 70 mph. From my experience anything over 3.73 in an auto is too much in a street car.

I had 3.73s installed in my 2010 manual a few weeks ago and was charged $650.00 including gears, lube, and labor. Worth every penny considering my new gears are as silent. I would consider that the high end and certainly wouldn't pay anything over $900.00 for gears and install... Find another shop.

That is correct to a point. The 5 speed auto trannies in the 05+ have a shorter first gear than the manual so 3.73 in an auto S197 is comparable to a 3.90 in a manual S197 for 1st gear only. 2nd, 3rd, and 5th are a little taller in the auto than the manual version while 4th is the same between the two.

Good info guys thanks. There is a shop in RI (Ocean State Performance) that I'm going to check out (saw their web site). It looks as though they could do the gear swap, just need to check prices. Do you think I should bring them the parts or have them do the entire job?

Ouch. $1300-$1400.

I'll have to price a local dealer & compare.

$800 is goes down a lot easier than +$1300.
