RTV vs gasket
Going to change the fluid in the 8.8 tomorrow. Technically (because it came from the factory isn't a technical response) what is the difference between using black rtv vs a Felpro gasket? I used the gasket on my F150 and haven't had any issues. I'm thinking torquing the bolts correctly is more of an issue.

I went with the black rtv gasket maker cause my mechanic told me to. He said a gasket would be fine, but he uses this stuff all the time. This is what I used.

Bought it at Autozone.
I applied it to the differential housing, not the cover.
I used a regular old fashioned wrench to tighten the bolts.
No drips, no problems.
Of course I got a little Royal Purple 85W-140 in my eye when filling it, but that's another story...
Edit: Yes, the manual says 75W-140. I ordered the 85W-140 RP from A.M.
