Installing new gears really worth it?

I'm looking for a little more low end torque. The cost of a supercharger just doesn't seem worth it right now. I don't do much highway driving so I'm thinking of changing my 3.55 gear to 4.10. Do you think it's worth it? Will I really notice a a difference? I hope so cause it seems like a good bang for a little bunch of bucks.

Do it. You will like.

Only complaint I have heard is that 1st gear is so short with 4.10's it's worthless

I just got a price of $950 to install 4.10 gear (parts and labor). Does that sound about right?

Since you said you don't do much highway driving then go for it if it's the low end torque you want. If you do plan to do more highway driving in the future you might want to consider 3:73's, although you won't see as big of gains on the low end since you already have 3:55's.

Questions to ask:

Is / will the car be a daily driver?
How often to you drive sustained highway speeds (80-90mph)?

Very little highway driving. This is not my daily driver. Right now I'm leaning towards the 4.10's.

I say go for it! Everyone that does 4:10's seem to love them!

In that case go for the 4:10's, just watch yourself if the roads are wet.

4.10s ftmfw in a manual transmission car, and that quote of $950 is ridiculous. I paid $280 for parts and labor to have my 3.73s installed, so unless the cost of living where ever you are is 5 times that of Miami, which I am sure is impossible, then that price is a rip off

If you don't do much highway driving and are looking for a low end improvement, definitely do 4.10s. I went from 3.31 to 3.73 and although it made a nice improvement, it was not a night and day differnece and the 4.10s would have been better. I would have gone 4.10, but I do alot of highway driving. The 4.10 is a good choice is you're planning to use the car for low highway miles daily driver or drag strip car. If you plan to do track events, remember that 4.10s will redline in fourth gear at about 125 mph which will have you shifting to 5th gear which sucks for acceleration.
