I've seen/had this happen - with new and old cars.

Their rationale is that the ECM is "learning" how you drive, and collecting data on your driving habits.

But this is B.S. to me too: the ECM should be adequately programmed to accomodate a wide variety of driving habits. More importantly, from the problems described, this is an issue that goes beyond what the ECM should be controlling.

I agree with GhostHorse. And for a NEW car to do this, with all its electronic sensors and modules, this **** shouldn't be happening to you.

And it's all the more frustrating when you can't reproduce it for them.

See, that's just... crap. The bad part is, to cover up THEM not knowing, they're passing this BS onto unsuspecting ppl who may or may not know any better. Had that been me, I'd have asked him to hang on a minute, would have reached into my purse, dug around extensively, found a compact with a mirror, opened it, examined my FOREHEAD EXTENSIVELY, close it, put it up, and go, OH GOOD! I thought I had STOOPID written on my forehead today for some reason...

*snort*

What an a$$.

And if you think frustrating when you can't recreate it is bad, try being a GIRL and bringing a car in. They just kinda look at you all apologetic like you have so few brain cells, there there dear, it'll be okay, you just need to learn to drive it right...

Think I'd be asking around and maybe take it to a different dealership. I know even here in SE Oklahoma, there are some dealerships you just don't take your stuff to... for reasons like this.

Morons. Lemme say it again.

Morons!

Sorry, It's not even my car and I'm pazzed off for the OP...

No gas cap, correct.

If I recall, didn't the "Ford GT" (not Mustang) have this feature back in 2004?

Would you like a picture for proof? We're dead serious.

After spending some time under the hood relaxing and retightening some hoseclamps and connections leading up the the motor the problem seems remedied. I didn't find anything obviously wrong so I'm no help there but I have put about 100 miles on it through 4 or 5 heat cycles and no trouble so far. On a brighter note I threw the Bassani axle-back on today I've had sitting around while trying to figure this out and the car sounds great. Definitely a step in the right direction. Thanks for the interest everyone.
