Default White Noise Between 2-3k RPM

Within the past few days, I've noticed my 07 GT making a noise between about 2 and 3 thousand rpm. It sounds like air rushing, or maybe something rubbing against something else. It sounds like it's coming from the back of the car, and it really only occurs when I'm accelerating, but I can hear it faintly other times. If I simply rev the engine to 2-3k, the sound is audible, but not nearly as loud as when I'm actually on the road. The engine does not feel any different, and there are no lights on the dash. Anyone have any Idea what this could be?

When I ran my car fully uncorked for a day I noticed that between 2500 and 2750ish the engine is very loud. It would be a steady increase from 750-2.5k, but then much louder, then quieter again after 2.75 or so. Not sure if this is related at all, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

4.6L MANUAL TRANSMISSION—SEPARATOR PLATE TSB 08-2-10
BUZZ—BUILT BEFORE 12/13/2007
FORD:
2005-2008 Mustang
ISSUE
Some 2005-2008 Mustang vehicles built before
12/13/2007 and equipped with a 4.6L engine and
manual transmission, may exhibit an oil-canning or
exhaust rattle/buzz around 2000 - 2500 RPM during
the first few minutes of driving after a cold start.
The sound goes away after the car warms up.
ACTION
The concern may be caused by the separator plate,
between the rear face of the block and the
transmission housing, vibrating and/or contacting the
flywheel. Follow the Service Procedure steps to
correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove transmission per Workshop Manual
(WSM), Section 308-03B.
2. Pry separator plate from rear face of block

That kind of seems what mine is doing. I don't think it's worth it to remove the tranny to alleviate noise that only bothers me from time to time.

Hey thanks for the help, I sorta forgot about this thread. I tracked down the problem- it was my left muffler. I just removed the left muffler and went for a drive, and the sound is gone, plus the exhaust sounds amazing without a left muffler. My mufflers are Corsas, so it should be covered under their warranty. Quick follow up question: Is it possible that it could damage the car in any way if I leave the muffler off until I get it fixed? I'm thinking hot exhaust gasses spewing out under the trunk might not be good. It just sounds so horrible with the broken muffler- it's started rattling at lower RPMs.
