Added Hood Scoop - Should I Stripe It Or Not?
#11
If you don't mind me asking, how much did the dealer charge you to paint the hood scoop? I took mine to the body shop my local Ford dealer sends all of their stuff to and they charged me 90 bucks to paint it.

I'd stripe it.
Whenever I have a question about appearance, I always look to the past because Mustangs have so much history. Looking back through google pics, the hood scoops are almost always (if not always) striped.

Just a note for those who already have stripes and then decide to install a hood scoop:
The hood scoop bolts on in four locations, but all of those are in the middle of the hood scoop. There is double sided tape that holds the edges down to prevent the small gap that will show if the tape isn't sticking properly. Since the edges (and the tape) fit directly over where my vinyl stripes are, the double sided tape isn't sticking properly because of the vinyl. If you are in this situation, before you put the scoop on, cut the edges of the vinyl that you already have installed and pull it off. If you don't, the odds are the tape won't adhere to the vinyl and it will keep popping up. It won't come off or anything, but the small gap that it leaves is annoying and doesn't look good.

The stripes look good as is and I think the scoop would be less dramatic if it was striped.
Its a good idea to cut the vinyl around the scoop for another reason. As seen in the pix below my hood scoop has a tendency to vibrate slightly and bunch up the vinyl at preasure points.

Oh wow. That is really good to know. Thanks for sharing those photos. For me personally I think this is all the more reason for me to shell out a few $$ to get them painted on.
