V6 to V8 swap. What's required?

If i was to convert my 2006 V6 Automatic to a V8 what would be required?

It would involve a donor car that i can pick up for 2k to 3k,or about a supercharger installation.

As far as supporting mods, a Shaftmasters Alum. DS and 8.8" Rear with 3.73's are already to go in this winter. The 5R55S is the same, so it's looking like physical engine + accessories and the PCM? any knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated.

Don't just respond trade it in. If that was the answer I was looking for I wouldn't be asking this.

Do you need a new PCM or can the original PCM be tuned for a 4.6-Auto?

Noble idea but make sure you get that donor car if not, you're in a world of pain.
You'll need the GT front brakes as well.
Don't throw anything away until the swap is done if you get to that point...
Good luck.

You'll need a GT or GT500 plus the price difference between what that car costs and what you can get for your car.

Don't even attempt to put a V8 into a V6 S197. You're talking suspension, electronics and a host of other supporting components in addition to the engine. By the time you're done you'd have a mess that costs more than what a trade would cost.

yea i agree with nuke it would be easier to just trade for a gt

The automatic transmission isn't exactly the same - different input shafts so they can't be swapped between the V6 and V8 so you will need the V8 automatic transmission.

sounds like a nightmare...just trade for the GT and save yourself the time, money, and hassle

huge.waste.of.time....sorry to say it bro...trust me i had a v6 for a while, get a gt

SatinSilverStang Oct 26, 2009 11:28 PM

was merely going to take advantage of the donor car i can pickup as soon as tomorrow, relax people. and if i recall i asked not to post if all you were going to do was suggest a trade-in

you can lead a horse to water, but it will only drink if it wants to

you've had solid advice by several people so far. A V-8 swap isn't a simple plug n' play.

From the factory the V-6 gets different wiring harnesses, PCM, mechanicals front/rear and a whole host of other difference.

You will need to strip that Donor car piece by piece and basically rebuild your entire car. brakes/axle/tranny/crossmember/motor mount...that is just a minor list

have fun with it. I think you'll find the Trade option more preferable once it's all said and done
