The T5 belong in the Flinstone mobile.
It's clumsy no matter what, sadly.
And no freaking gear oil will solve that!

I think it's possible this transmission takes ATF and not gear oil.

A good performing synthetic lubricant can take that, "clunky", out of a transmission.

the T5 tranny is notorious for doing exactly what you describe. Every car I've ever owned with a T5 did the same thing. I thought Ford had done away with that piece o' crap. Guess I was wrong.

I hardly live in a location with cold temperatures. Really.

When I took delivery of my ride in the summer, there was like a month long extreme heat wave going on -- so I never noticed any notchy shifting. Even in recent weeks as it's been cooling down outside, it's shifted as smooth as any vehicle I've ever owned.

But today's weather was the coolest it's been since I've owned my GT -- and notchy shifting reared its presence. Not bad, only for a couple minutes until the vehicle warmed up, and confined basically to 1st & 2nd gears.

What's my "cold" reference point? ~ 55°F. (Yeah, this isn't exactly the frozen tundra country of Green Bay in the winter.)

In my case, I don't see it worth changing out the fluid (if, in fact, that would solve it using something other than what was filled stock) for such a minor issue in the climate that is the Lower Left Coast (if this is the worst it gets.)

For Zoom_H, who started this thread:

Take my data as relative, and add it to the vault of knowledge that is MF; it would probably be more prevalent for folks who live in true "Cold Country".

P.S. Should clarify that this issue seems to span both transmissions (T5 and the 3650)

Last edited by 7up; 11-21-2009 at 11:22 PM. Reason: Issue affects both transmissions, apparently...

I'm thinking that what I perceive as notchy, others (in "Cold Country") would think nothing of it.

Again, it's relative -- as everyone has their own idea of what constitutes a notchy shift.
