Go with the 285/40/18

I just switched from 295/45/18 to the 285/40/18. Two tires ago I had 275/40/18's and they looked short. Go with the 285's.

285/40/18 I would suggest that also.
If you want pics of the prokit on 285/40 255/45
with just about the same wheels, check my site

You should get pretty good wear with the nittos. Traction should be much better too..I put AM gt4s on my car about 2 months ago. I have a pic in the 18s vs 20s thread if you wanna see what the rims look like with frpp k springs

I've had my staggered set of Nitto 555's for 23,000 thousand miles, and they're still going strong. Great summer grip when warmed even with my 474rwhp.

You must go with the 255/45/18 fronts and 285/40/18 rears. That gives you the 27" diameter height for the giant Mustang wheel wells. Anything smaller looks pre 05' IMO

The 275/40/18's look OK if you're lowered 1" 1/4, but not higher. IMO

From a weight stand point the Michelin Pilot Sports also come in the above staggered arrangement, have a very good rep, and are 2lbs or lighter than the nittos for the same size tires. That is a huge difference for that outside rotating mass. Not to mention going to light weight forged wheels also makes a huge difference in rotating mass. Erik

I just looked at the price of Michelin Pilot sports. They are about $100 more per tire than the Nitto.

Okay, so here's another question to add to all this. Is it better, worse, or doesn't matter, if I decide to do springs first? Should I change any other suspension as I do springs/wheels/tires?

I don't think it would matter if you do springs first. I am no expert when it comes to handling, but you may want to search the S197 handling section. Besides springs, you may need and want to do other things such as struts/shocks, cambers, re-location brackets for your Lower Control Arms and alignment.

The 285/40/18 would be just right.

I can't help you with the tires but if you are going to put springs on you will need to get lower control arms and the lca relocate bracket.

285/40/R18 - Falken makes an Azenis RT-615 in that size. Looks like a nice tire.

But yeah 28"+ tires on a stock gear setup would suck. Better have some 4.10s first.
