Default Best $2.27 mod ever.

As many of you with custom tunes know, a dealer reflash can wreak havoc on your car. I've only ever taken my car back to the dealer for TSBs and one recall, and every time I had to tell them not to reflash the PCM. I wanted to come up with a solution so that in case I ever forgot to tell them, they wouldn't reflash anyway. So, I went to a junkyard and found an OBD II data port cover. They're not hard to find, most mid nineties pontiacs had them, and most mid nineties pontiacs live in junkyards. I frequent this particular junkyard a lot, so the guy behind the desk didn't charge me anything for the data port cover. I brought it home and used a sander to quickly sand the cover flat. Next, I got on Ebay and found a seller that makes custom laser cut dog tags. I selected a tag that was the exact same shape as the face of the OBD II data port cover and had it engraved with "DO NOT REFLASH, CUSTOM TUNED, CONSULT OWNER." The total cost for the custom engraved tag shipped to my door was $2.27. When I recieved the tag, I slapped a little super glue on the back of it and glued it to the face of the OBD II data port cover. The tag I selected had two holes in it to be run through a dog collar, so I filled them with a bit more glue, just to be sure it was stuck on well. Finished product: (Sorry for crappy camera phone pics. Trust me, It's much crisper in person.)

The glue is still wet in this pic. It dried clear and shows black.

I have to hand it to you, other than figuring out how to lock the port, that's truly a mod I will look into. Kudos!

Of course, the wusses that worry about the dealership will cry about "advertising" that they have a tune. Boohoo, their loss...

If you loaded the stock tune back on before you went to the dealer you wouldn't have to worry about this correct?
