New 2011 GT Better be faster than a Jeep!
#13
WTF is this ****? A Jeep is supposed to be an off road vehicle. Being fast on the street is losing focus of what a Jeep was designed for and makes about as much sense as making a Prius a performance vehicle. Same goes for trucks. It's for working/hauling FFS!
Chrysler totally ruined the Jeep brand by turning away from the hardcore off-road type it used to be to this oh look at me I'm a cool soccer mom thing.
If I had a jeep I can guarantee it would not be fast. But it would have the low end power to muck through deep mud and climb a freaking wall..you know, what a Jeep is SUPPOSED to be able to do. It would also be an early 80's CJ-7 or similar.
The Hummer brand was also screwed up thanks to the H2 and H3. The brand went from being this ultimate off road machine to a hey look at how much money I have thing...and the vehicles (H2 and H3) suffered for it with very poor off road performance.
Lame.
(BTW, this is not the first time I heard about the Jeep SRT8 in-case it may sound that way)

The H3 is actually a very capable off road car. The only reason some of the Jeeps do better in some cases is because of the size. Tight, narrow off road stuff the H3 isn't good at. But give it open area (and especially sand), and the H3 really shines. There are multiple reviews about a year ago regarding just this (Car and Driver I know had one, I think Motor Trend did something too). And honestly, the H3 as a daily is pretty decent. I've towed a couple cars with it, the snow traction is great, and its comfortable. I'm not arguing that the brand was diluted with the consumer models, but its not a bad SUV for what it is.

Doesnt Dodge own Jeep? To me thats why they kind of have to make jeeps like that so they can compete with the Ford and Gm Soccer mum SUV's. I dont know of any off the top of my head that are dodges. I could be wrong though. GM and Ford bolth have many options for a soccer mom, Equinox, Suburban, Explorer ect...
I have to admit though that I really am not into SUV's or 4 by 4's

A 2010 GT with 3.73 gears goes 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. You have to remember that all wheel drive grabs much better then rear wheel drive...The 2011 gt will probably be quicker 0-60 then a gt-500 but after that point the gt-500 will overtake it...

I don't think it will be faster 0-60 than the Gt500... but it will be closer... The problem is you guys are comparing cars that are significantly more expensive. When I compare the speed of this car to other cars I look at cars in the price range or cheaper...

If I owned an AWD Jeep SUV I would love nothing more than beating the snot out of Mustang owners. People love racing/beating Mustangs because Mustangs are "supposed" to be all that and a bag of chips in terms of affordable speed. The problem is friggin' Accords and crap like that are pretty damn quick now. I hope the 2011 GT does have 400 hp. It would be very nice to see the Mustang once again get a couple of car lengths on some of the more hum-drum cars.
