Default Idle @ 1500 RPM

When I start cold, it will idle at 1500 rpms for a few minutes. Then it'll go down to 1000rpm.... after driving a little bit itll get down to around 800rpms. Is this normal ranges for heating up the engine when its cold out? I dont really see the sense in it since I usually don't sit around before driving off....

yep 1500 for about 2 mins then 1000 then about 750 to 800, and after driving 65 for 30 or so mins, pull in to micky d's for coffee while in drive through in morning it will actually rev to aout 1200 for a second then back to normal.

What I notice is that if you leave it idle for a while it will idle itself up. I was in a drive through that was going very slow and the car suddenly idles up to about 1200 or so and holds there for a bit. It was around 60 degrees outside and I had been driving the car for at least 30 mins.

Yep, it definately does this. Not sure why but it does. Perhaps some reason for emissions?

I know when it is cold it is trying to warm up the cats quickly, that is the reason for rich burn and high idle when cold. But once fully warmed, I dont know why it does this temporary high idle.....
