Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

No flutter here, stock hood and fiberglass cowl. A hood flying up on my windshield is the least of my worries.

Default Hood lifting at speed

SpectorV on another forum said he had a friend that had the outer panel seperate from the lower and crash the windshield. The latch and hinges are attached to the bottom side. hood pins are sounding better all the time.

Default hood lifts at speed

From other forums I have heard of outer hood seperating and crashing windshield and a recall on earlier mustangs for hood seperation problems. I am trying to find out if the only thing that holds the OEM aluminum hoods together is the fold on the edge. I have seen steel hoods spot welded and folded on the edge and some with glue or sealer on middle bracing. I don't have access to my original hood to compare with what I have now from collision repair.

Mine flutters and it drives me nuts. Might go with a set of hood pins for peace of mind but really don't want to

When I'm crossing the traps at the drag strip, my hood floats so high I'm scared it's going to rip off. I'd say an inch is entirely possible, and it definitely puckers my butt every time. On a positive note, 200ish passes at the strip haven't ripped it off yet.

This is my buddy's 2011 GT500 at the strip. Check out the hood after he crosses the traps. Scary as hell.

Recessed set? Or regular. I've got the recessed type and the tiny rod that is used to latch to the pins has got me worried to push a top-speed run.

That's a very common issue with the S197 body styles. Speaking from experience the best solution is to add in a set of quality hood latch pins. The 2011+ body style is a little bit more aerodynamic. They don't call the '09's- a brick for nothing!

If you really want to go at it then ditch the OEM front bumper for a Roush style and ditch the rear spoiler for a Roush or Steeda style spoiler and you'll feel the car sucking downward the faster you go.

My last mustang had this issue when going over 100, its because air gets caught under the front lip of the hood that overhangs over the headlights. Try adjusting the rubber hood pieces and if that doesn't work then get hood pins, or just live with it or just drive slower.
