For a d/d I wouldn't put a 275 rim on a 17x8 rim, but I would put a 275 on 17x8 rim for track purposes.

Personally I think the M&H 275/50/R17 on a Enkei lightweight 17x9 would be a pretty killer setup. For the track or DD summer/dry weather duty - if you don't mind replacing a $200 tire every 4000 miles. lol

Any risk of something breaking with drag radials and lots of launches?

I believe the max recommended width on the stock 8" or 8.5" rim is a 255 series. You'll need to check the tire specs which are usually listed on sites like tirerack.

I don't recommend drag radials as a daily tire. I wrecked my car in the rain because of drag radials and standing water. It only takes a small puddle to get a 275 drag radial to hydroplane. When the M&H's are new, they are fine in the rain, but at 1/2 their tread life they are useless when there's water on the road.

You won't find any street tire in a 275 that is the appropriate height. The only 2 made are Nittos and Falkens and neither gets all that good of reviews.

Just pull off the road if it rains? Check the weather?

/shrug

If it's the only car you have then yeah I wouldn't even consider it. Stupid idea.

Default drag radials

Here are some pics of mine(17x9 rim) The m& h tires run a little narrower that most, check their website.

Here is a video of them in action, they hooked pretty well on that run (1.69 60 fttime) probably need to cut and paste the link.
