WOT you will drop down into the mid to low teens and top out around 22 degrees of timing with the 8 psi you are talking about. This is based on an 8.5 psi Salleen kit.

Tuning for smog is easy with an SC car. They generally will run the same timing at idle as an NA car and close to the same fuel needs. There is a different load on the car so things are different such as mass air etc.

The issue you had is trying to use a canned tune. They usually will work okay enough to make the car have better power and run well enough to get by. But occasionally they will be pig rich, or to lean, too much or not enough timing.

A good example is Sactown. His car ran pig rich, had very little timing and would not idle correctly. A data log later, a few 4th gear pulls and his car made 80+ more rwhp and drove like a dream.

It's difficult to take a canned tune from a major manufacture and make it work for every car. That's why custom tuning is so critical and essential for FI S197s.

That's why you were smart enough to get a custom tune.
SO TRUE!!! It is not hard to have/get fueling and timing correct at WOT, but everywhere else is not as easy. Injector and MAF calibrations need to correct first before doing anything. Then the car can be tuned correctly on a LOAD bearing dyno, period!

I am not saying emailed tunes are bad, but they are not going to be completely correct.
