Default $1,100 for new ball joints?!

So my ball joints are bad and I the dealership just quoted $1,100 to replace the entire lower control arm. I've heard before that you have to replace the whole arm, but this just seems ridiculously high.

The breakdown was the following:

$100 for alignment
$300 labor
$700 for both LCAs

Is this an accurate price or am I getting hosed?

You're getting hosed. Especially since I doubt you need ANY of that work other than maybe an alignment (unless you make it a habit of driving down a railroad track and beat the hell out of your suspension on the railroad ties). Get a 2nd opinion from a shop that you trust.

+1 above. Always get another quote if you even think you may be getting screwed over.

$255 for both LCAs with ball joints as priced in the 2008 FRPP catalog. Price has probably gone up a little since then, but I really doubt that it's almost tripled.

Part number M-3075-E still shows in the 2009 FRPP catalog, without pricing.

$300 to pop a couple of ball joints and remove half a dozen bolts also sounds a bit excessive, and even $100 for two-wheel alignment (not involving thrust angle or any rear wheel work) is definitely on the high side.

woah, we need more info. What year car and how many miles and was this due to some accident?

With all that being said, a monkey can change them, why go to the stealership, do you think they are the only ones who can change such an easy part? Go to some local guy who will appreciate your business and probably could use the business.

To much, and if you don't want to tackle the job yourself, then find an independent shop. Never ever go to the dealer when your car is out of warrenty, they will always charge you at a premium for parts and labor.

I have a set of practically new control arms with the stock balljoints in them. I swapped my ca's for GT500 units with steeda x5 balljoints...and even those only cost me about $250 or so...

PM me if you're interested. I'll let the CA's with stock balljoints go for $150 shipped.

I'm confused... Why would they replace an entire A-Arm. You can get BMR ones for $300 with ball joints. Or if just the ball joints are bad you can get Steeda Ball joints for $150 at americanmuscle.com

I $1100 is in your budget then I would just replace the entire K-Member. If you are married and need an upgrade excuse it seems the dealer just gave you one. Just sell it like, "Well the dealer wants $1100 for stock but I can get a better aftermarket set up for $700..."

HOSED.

If the unibody is straight, you would not require an alignment.
LCAs for the GT 500 are cheaper from MossMuscle.

$300 for lablor seems normal but why not do it yourself and save?
