Default GT500 front end conversion, a few questions

I have an 07gt and really want to put on the GT500 front end.

Only problem is i have about 1200$ to work with and most parts estimates I have seen put everything at about 1600$ plus i would still have to pay for paint. Is there anywhere to find the parts for cheaper...like off a wrecked GT500 for example?

I also heard that if you know someone at Ford they can get you parts "at cost" which then the front end conv. adds up to only 900?

finally, I likely will not have the money to paint the bumper right away, should i wait until i can get it painted before i install everything? Or just install the front end unpainted and wait until i can get the cash to paint? If I go ahead and install i could probably sell all the old GT front end stuff for a couple hundred.

EDIT - I am keeping the GT hood. I want it to look similar to the white mustang that posts on MF sometimes, It is a white GT with a gt500 front bumper conv.

maybe if your car is while or black you can get away with some decent spray paint that will match up a little atleast but id have to agree, try to get it painted first.

Also ive heard of it being done for less then 1000 painted but with used parts. the trouble there is finding the parts used at a good price. If your patient it can happen

And if you can find a sixxer looking to upgrade to a gt front you can score a little extra cash to offset that too.

coming from someone that has done this conversion in the past, it's just expensive to do...and if you're going to do it, do it right, wait to install everything until the front bumper cover is painted (but that's JMO)

I found all my parts used and got a hell of a deal. Everything kinda fell in my lap got in a wreck found painted black gt500 bumpers, facroty hid headlights, grill, and everything needed for $700. I got more than lucky. If i were you cruise ebay and every mustang forum you know and just look for parts thats what i did for bout a week or two and came across this deal.

i'll always find it funny how the v6s want to look like gt's, and the gt's want to look like v6's...

and in this case, the GT wants to look like GT500s...

from what i've heard, this is a very time consuming project to find the parts if your looking to save coin...also, trying to find all the part numbers!

Good Luck!!
I've always loved the look of the GT with the GT500 front end (but keep your GT hood!!)

in 2012 my whole front end plus hood will go up for sale. along with all my mods.. torch red guys book mark me. lol

$ 900 ? you'll never get that deal from a dealrship on new parts period.
I was one of the ones that got the cost price from the dealership. That dealership is the main sponsor for the mustang club I'm in and I paid $ 1300 for every single thing, including bolts, nuts and all that stuff. Paint was $ 900 for the bumper and hood. I figure the bumper would be around $ 250 - $ 300

Wait till you can paint it though. Go buy the parts now since the prices are more than likely to go up, and just keep them in the garage till you can paint. You can do the install your self. It's super easy

Like everyone else.. wait till you can get the parts painted before you put them on. Unpainted body parts are just wrong.
