Steering Wheel Swap

I'm about to swap out my stock/BASE GT deluxe steering wheel out for the one off the GT500. I was wondering if anyone knew what TYPE of bolt is used to bolt the steering wheel to the car? Is it yield tight? what type of steel is it?

Let me know how this goes because I am looking to upgrade mine as well.

The install is quick and easy, I'm just anal and want to make sure I don't reuse a yielded bolt... not exactly a good idea when messing with something that controls the direction of your vehicle!

I'm also wondering if there is a resource to find out what all the torque specifications are for the bolts in the 2010? This would be very useful.

Hmm... I've been considering this for a little while also. What steering wheel are you going to get? Where you getting it? I was looking at the gt500 wheel. post some pics when you get the install done.

Just curious were did you get your new wheel anyway? Is it something that you buy from ford? How much did it cost if you dont mind? Also does it come with an airbag or do you reuse yours? Would I have to use the Cobra center logo or could I reuse my horse logo?

It doesn't come with an airbag, you reuse yours (which has the original pony emblem on it). I got it from this site:

http://www.partscheap.com/2010_GT500...3z-3600-aa.htm

I just found a guide that says you do need to replace the bolt:

http://www.2005stang.com/gallery/alb...eringwheel.pdf

The part number is 043B13

Now the question is, does anyone know where to order this from other than the dealer? Is there a website that has ford parts like this?

I don't see why that wouldn't be to much at a ford dealer for the bolt. What buttons do you have on your steering wheel now. All I have is cruise options. Are you going to make the other buttons work also? Volume, tuning, etc....

Is it a lot of work to make all those other buttons work? Because I only have cruise also.

bustacrab 12-26-2009 01:32 PM

I only have cruise controls, but the other controls should work since I have a 2010.. putting the same wiring for the steering wheel for each car should be a time saver/money saver. So the other controls SHOULD work... if not... I'll be having to add some wiring. We will find out soon enough. Just ordered the mount bolt, I'll let you guys know how it goes.
