The black intake tube that leads to my air filter is made out of a very hard solid material.

I'm being advised that it sounds like a boost leak.

you got a boost gauge?
does it loose power only under boost, or also under partial throttle.
does it hesitate under partial throttle, if so could be electrical. check the plugs.

Yes, I have an Autometer boost gauge.
It goes into boost then I hear a large surge of air and lose most power.

But, when my car is at a stand still and I accelerate with a partial throttle there isn't much power there either making it difficult to merge with traffic.

I don't know if it's normal but there is something protruding from where the Whipple blower assembly meets up with the manifold area. It looks like a gasket.

I'll post pics.

YOu blew the gasket between the blower and the manifold. Get a new one and put it in.

DING! DING! DING!
Build a boost tester (it's easy) and pressurize the system, look for leaks. Also when DID this problem start?

You can get the idea for a basic boost tester build at a site like this http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html

Any recommendations on where to purchase and what's a quality type of gasket to get as a replacement?

I have a KB which is O ringed and then a small amount of RTV is put down if you choose to.

I would contact someone who deals Whipple products or even Whipple directly with a picture. It should be really easy. I takes about 10 minutes to pull the blower off my car so I am assuming your's is similar.

Try googling it.

I wonder why it did that in the first place. Did you have any strange things happen like a backfire or bounce off the rev limiter a bunch?

Whoever installed it didn't do it right. They missed an entire bolt hole. Ususally the gasket is held in place with cinch or rtv to prevent this from happening while installing the blower.

Whipple will sell you a new gasket. This one may be salvageable. Pull the blower (you will have to no matter what) and see if the gasket is torn. If it isn't get some gasket maker, gasket cinch, or high temp rtv and use it to hold the gasket on the manifold. Then put the blower back on. Good luck.
