08 mustang issues Trapped out of town HELP
 

Hi guys, i'm new to the forum and a bit desperate. Last night on the interstate home, my car started surging like my rear wheels lost traction or i was pulling a trailer. I also lost cruise control. When it would "jerk" the shifter would almost pop out of gear, the rpms would surge 50-100 RPM, and the transmission has been making a squeeling noise for a lot of miles. I just assumed the squeel was just a trait of the 5 spd manual.

An hour away from home, the car quit jerking but the engine lights stayed on, so i'm currently staying in the town an hour from home, and on a sunday, I can't get to the dealership for warranty work. I took the car to Autozone to scan the issue and they said it's the ECM. When i drove to Autozone this morning, the light was on still, but i got cruise control back.

Is it safe to drive home? Could the ECM cause the jerking/banging that was caused at any speed in any gear? Do I have two seperate issues? Could it be the clutch? The clutch in my mustang is like a semi clutch, very stiff and doesn't disengage til the end of the clutch pedal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe try roadside assistance and go home till you can go to the dealer its towed to tomm.

try disconnecting the battery for 15 mins then hook it back up it might reset it...

I'm in Salina, but because it's Sunday, all the dealerships are closed and roadside assitance said i'm SOL because i didn't plan ahead to rent a car on SUNDAY. Salina is about an hour and 20 minutes from my home, so even if i tried bringing it down after work, they'd be closed. I'm curious as to why the tranny was banging so hard. The engine lost power, but that was for the "limp-home" mode. I'm sure driving it could do all sorts of potential damage.

I agree call roadside assistance and have it towed to the dealership. I would not drive it as the more you drive it knowing of the problem the worse you can make it. That could open up issues in itself with the dealer. Hence the conversations that go, "Well it was this easy fix but because you drove it you ruined xxxxx. You are going to have to pay for the additional repairs as it's not covered."

Roadside Assistance will tow it 24/7 to the nearest dealership whether they are open or not. Every dealership I've been to has a night deposit box and you just drop your keys in there. Then you contact them the next day. Have somebody come pick you up. I would NOT drive it anymore for the same reason gt/cs07 said.

How cold was it? Your gas line could be icing up. If that's the case a can of heet would fix it in about 30 minutes.
