AUTO VS. MANUAL?!?! (2011)
#11
I have had 3 manual Mustangs and on now on my second automatic transmission.
Your point re city driving is a valid one.
I had real misgivings about getting my first auto (an '06).
My experience (sincerely, with all due respect to the competent drivers on this site) . . . I like it a lot. If you are going to the strip or track, then no question - stick.
For me, most of my "races" are on the road starting between 20 and 60 mph. I was surprised at how fast the auto shifts. I also lose very few races I killed my bosses' '07 vette with a paddle shifter. (I NEVER mentioned a word of this at work). I can't tell you how many times the guy next to me missed a gear.
The auto is somewhat computer controlled and takes a lot into consideration when shifting.
Albeit, the auto has a "memory" and if you drive it slow it "learns" your habits and shifts as such. The way to defeat this is disconnect the battery.
The 2011 with a 6 speed should be very sweet. Again, no offense to the good drivers here . . . I would get killed by them at the strip . . . but cruising around on the street - it suits me fine.
Re the wife thing . . . yeppers! The pay off makes one forget about using the clutch.
See you down range.
my car/s past and present . . . .

heres my spin on it. Political china crap out of the equasion. My personal opinion is this is a sports car it should be a stick. Regardless of whether an auto might be .12367293353781208716240872364896 of a second faster to shift than a human, or .34817465913450543723321 to 60. ITs just the true enjoyment of driving a car. BUT I do understand where auto comes in to play, if your ready for a car you can just drive, but still want the feel of a cool car, sure an auto is great, if your someone who lives in the city, yea auto is great. But bottom line theres nothing like actually feeling and being a part of driving the car, instead of just throwing suggestions and letting the car do most of the driving.
