Default Few questions about the new 5.0

Save me some digging guys

What are you all figuring the new GT will run stock in the 1/4?

Do you think low 12s is reasonable without voiding warranty? That means lightening the car maybe by 100-150lbs and exhaust, intake and traction

Would you guys buy the new 5.0 or pick up a 2010 used for about 5-6k less?

I wonder whether you can pick up a new 2010 for 5-6k less than a 2011.

I don't know the calculator I looked at said high 12's, but I think real world it will be low 13's...13.0-13.3. Can't wait until some magazine gets their hands on one.

I don't think there is a question that it will run at least 12.9 or better... it doesn't weigh much more than the current Mustang & people have run 13.3's and 13.4's stock with the 05-09 models. With another 112 HP would be hard to imagine that it wouldn't run 12's.

Heck... my car ran 13.082 and I know it probably has about 350ish at the crank.

The new GT will have around 350 to the wheels (the 412 is at the crank) so i would expect it to be around 13.0 to 13.1 much like how your car ran. Also remember that the gear ratios of the new tranny will make a difference as well as whatever gear Ford decides to put in the rear end. Tires will make a difference too.

I would be intrested in seeing a chart of the power train curve of the new 5.0 and compare it to the 4.6. Alot of people forget that high top end horse power dosen't always mean better quarter mile time. I think in this case it will, but I'd still like to see the curves side by side.

I'm hoping the 5.0 takes a page from the 5.4 3v motor

the 5.4 3v has 80% of max torque available at 1,000 RPM!. Can you imagine 400+ crank TQ available at essentially idle?

but most likely, Ford will run the HP/TQ curves like the current 4.6 3v is...shame
