Default Not getting fuel

I was taking my 05 in to get the front suspension TSB done and it started sputtering like it was out of gas. The gauge said I had a quarter tank & 83 miles 'til empty. I checked my error codes and had a 3rd gear error and a pressure control solenoid A fault. Didn't think it would work but I put a gallon of gas in and it ran just fine. I filled it up (it took 11 gal) and dropped it off at the dealer with no other problems. Anyone got any ideas on what was going on? Is there an auxilliary pump that helps push gas when you get below a quarter tank? I did have the fuel tank replaced a month ago and haven't had any problems but I can't recall if I've dropped down to a quarter tank or not since then...

my 94 GT owners manually strongly discouraged getting below a half tank. the fuel is a coolant and lubricant for the fuel pump too. my 86 GT pump would quit if i got below an 1/8 tank, fill up and would be fine. i strongly advise to never run out of fuel and run the pump dry, it will be damaged or fail permanently. fuel pump weakness is characteristic of fords, just like engine rattle on startup. i have three fords in my driveway, a 302 roller motor, a 429 thunderjet and the 4.0 05 and they all rattle.

I ran my blue one down to the low fuel light before and I alway fill up when I hit 1/4 tank or less and haven't had any problems. Did this start before the fuel tank was replaced? I would take it back to the dealer and have them check it out, but I wouldn't raise hell unless they give you a run around.

well you could ask the dealer to check on it, but if its fine, more than likely they will say they found nothing.

As far as not runnin on empty. Very true, not recommened. But I do hafta say after 252,000 miles on my T-bird and always waiting until low fuel light came on to fill, The origional pump is still kicking with no problems.

I've only run mine down to the low fuel light coming on once just to see if it worked. Generally I don't allow any of my vehicles to get below 1/2 a tank. You never know when you could get stick idling in traffic for a long time. Running out of gas at a time like that would really suck! It's easily avoided by just keeping it above half and it doesn't cost you any more. Another member made a good point about running the electric fuel pump out of gas. That certainly could damage it. Better safe than sorry.

Just got back from vacation and called the dealer- of course they didn't find anything. They've been pretty good so far so I think they checked it out. It was pretty hot that day (about 93); do you think it could've been something like vapor lock?
