Thinking of trading up to a GT...

My car says "MUSTANG" it doesn't say "GT" or "GT500" but I LOVE it all the same!
Quick knocking those of us who wanted the V6 over the GT and start thanking us for keeping the GT on the road.
OK, now back on topic!

I'm not sure if you have a Carmax near you but I've had great luck with them. Instead of getting the "trade value" for your car, you just outright "sell" it to them. I've sold a few cars to Carmax and have gotten above Blue Book for all of them. You don't have to buy a car from them either. I rolled in, sold them my car, and was gone within two hours with a check in hand. If you owe more than your car is worth, though, you will have to pay the rest so they can get a clean title. But, if you can find a Carmax that has a used GT, then you can roll that into the price of the new vehicle. From my experience, most car dealers are out to screw you, plain and simple. Carmax, on the other hand, is a little less likely to do that.

My 06 v6 was totaled by an a**hole who rear ended me at 45+ mph while I was trying to make a left turn. I had 12k left to pay off on it and the mustang was worth 8500 with 44k miles on it. Luckily my insurance paid off my car and gave me extra to use for a down payment on my 08 gt.

$8,000-$10,000. A used GT with 60,000 miles or so would be about $15,000. So you'll "lose" about $5,000 before paying TTL. However, there's so much more to a GT than just the V8. Go for it if you've got the money right.
