Default Gas tank/gauge question

Quick question - every time I fill up on an "empty" tank, it only takes 12.1-12.5 gallons with my "30 miles until empty" message displaying. Do I need to get this checked? ...Isn't it like a 16 gallon tank? Does anyone know how many gallons their car takes on a relatively full fill-up?

Also, I've never actually ran down to an empty tank of gas (according to the message display anyway) to see if those missing 3 gallons are actually there. Would the car just shut off or start dabbing into this "hidden" fuel at that point?

I have the exact same issue. I have even driven my car to 1 mile to empty and still am only able to get 12.5 gallons in it.

A couple of others took theirs in to dealer and got this resolved.

Don't rely on the on-board computer. It's not accurate. If your gauge is reading about 1/4 tank when you fill with about 12 gallons or if it reads about 1/2 tank when you fill with about 8 gallons then you're fine. Also, be sure your ignition is off when you fill-up. This has been a known problem with the electronics tied to the fuel system being "faked out". Be sure to reset the on-board at each fill-up also.

My needle shows right on the empty line when I fill it and only get 12.5 gallons of fuel in it

My car is the same way. Never really thought of it as a problem though, as long as I'm not running out of gas!! I try to fill up at 1/2 tank so as not to run it so low. I always have heard this prolongs fuel pump life.

How does your boost gauge show that?

I have actually run it down once to 0 miles till empty and had about 1.5 gallons left... which is perfect. Generally I think when the light comes on its around 4 gallons left

I let mine get down to 1 mile to empty and I put 15.5 gallons in her. I'm glad I stopped.
