3rd brake light wiring

Can anyone tell me which wire is the power for the third brake light on an '08 GT? There is a white and a black wire. I need to add a resistor to my new LED taillight.

Thanks.

Pin Circuit
1 1205 (BK) 22 Ground
2 1374 (TN-LB) 22 Hot

shop manual shows (Black) is ground
(tan/light blue) is hot

If it were house wiring, the black would be hot and the white neutral. :icon_lol: On most cars I've seen the black is usually ground. If your resistor came with a splice crimp on one end and an eye crimp on the other then there is a simpler solution that won't require a DVM or a wiring diagram. Get yourself another splice crimp either from a local hardware store or the help section of your local parts store. Clip off the eye crimp and splice the resistor between the black and white wire since one of these wires is ground and the other is power. Resistors are electrically the same in both directions unlike diodes.

Another suggestion is if the replacement brake light has a pigtail, then I would splice into that side of the connector rather than the vehicle's wiring harness.
