Capless fuel tank problem -- ugly water streaks
Hey guys,
So I posted this question in another thread, but I'm hoping it'll get more traffic and maybe an answer on it's own.
At the bottom of the capless fuel area is a hole that I'm told by Ford is to let any water out. The rubber gasket in the center of the fuel door keeps rain water out of the actual tank, but below that is a hole that I assume to connect to some small network of water channels that go from somewhere to somewhere.
I say this because after a rain or snow, or even just washing the car, I can open the door and see water slowly trickling out of that hole (shouldn't it be going IN, not OUT?) I wouldn't even mind it so much, but as I drive, it'll leave ugly water streaks coming out of the closed door. This especially sucks after spending an hour washing it.
Right now I have a piece of napkin wedged into the space at the bottom of the door to collect the water, and that works, but does anyone know what's going on with that, and is there a fix? Ford was no help.
Thanks dudes.

Happens to mine all the time too.
Kind of like lowering and raising a window after washing: your clean side window streaks all to heck. But that's an entirely different issue.
May have to look into the napkin remedy until resolved.

Yea its happens to me all over, The louvers, scoops, gas tank. I have to let it dry for a while and keep checking it. Doesnt really bother me all that much though because I am usually waxing by that point.

Haha... wouldn't exactly call a napkin corner a "remedy."
That's intended to be a VERY temporary fix.
In all seriousness, I had been thinking of a slightly better fix...
I was going to glue a small button magnet to the back of a small sponge, and stick it to the inside bottom of the door.
Hell, if it does a good job, I may license it to Ford to add as a Premium Option... just have to think of a name for it.
Capless fuel filler, with optional NotAsCrappyLookingWhenItRains Water Absorption System.
Eh, I'll keep working on that one.

Where in this photo is the hole?
I can't see one at the bottom, just a little cave. Is that it? This is one of the preview cars so the production one might be different.
Maybe the fix would be a ring of rubber around the edge...
