Ha, thanks for the input guys. And actually I saw on ebay that those 427R's are going pretty cheap... They look cool, and I would guess they run about a 12.6 1/4 like the saleen. With the market the way it is and GT500's down on price I think I might just talk him into one... Also, future resale on the g500 has to be way better. So hard to decide!

I didn't see this thread before I posted basically the same thread. It is a tough decision. Hope your brother recovers quickly. Thanks to him for his service.

It will be 320lbs lighter than the GT500, have a much better engineered front/rear weight balance, better aerodynamics, and be as fast as than the GT500. It's a better quality car than the previous GT500s, and will be far better at road racing, and any cornering activity than the GT500.

Of course I realize that most everyone here is a drag racer, and will defend the pig like GT500, and the way overpriced Saleens, so please ignore everything i just said. Erik

I'll just venture to say that someone with an 07 or 08 GT500 has had about 4 years to mod their car compared to a brand new '11. You're going to have a lot of coin ($) to drop to come anywhere close to being able to hang with a GT500 pushing out 800+ RWHP GT500 with a car that isn't even out yet. Better start buying your mods now...ohh wait, they aren't out yet because it's a new engine.

This is the same argument I have with the 03-04 cobra crowd. They talk all this smack about how much better their cars are and how they can smoke mine...how many years have you had to mod it. Same things all over again.

LOL

I own both, so before you drop the fanboy remark, I'll save you the trouble friend.

The GT500 motor is different. It is a driver's race between a Stock Cobra, and a GT500. They both have run low 12's, and trap close to each other. Big weight difference, and almost 80 RWHP more in favor of the GT500. Yeah, not a better car. Maybe a better bang for buck car. Just saying is all. I can show you a vid of equal drivers, where a 540 RWHP GT500, loses to a 500 RWHP Cobra. Let me guess.....LUCK!!!

Don't get me wrong. If I could find a GT500 for around the 30k range(never going to happen, because 99.9% of the owners actually think a GT500 with 30K miles is still worth that) I would trade my Cobra in ASAP. Better luxury, a more efficient motor, the Solid rear, stronger trans, etc. Even though 03/04's have better Rods, and similar flowing heads, GT500's have better Pistons. I hate how Ford did that

On-Topic - The GT500 will give you a better out of the box bang, will more than likely hold it's value better, the better drivetrain overall, etc. I'd say get the GT500, or try to find a Saleen Extreme, as Saleen doesn't play around and those cars are sick. New, I would never in my life pay 70K for a Mustang. Not even for a GT500. A SuperSnake, maybe, but even then, 70K is 70K. The parts and the car are not 70K, it's the Saleen name.

Grabber, I believe they are about equal cars. The GT500 has more power, but the Cobras have considerable less weight. I would definately think I 540RWHP 3900LB GT500 would loose to a 500RWHP 3600LB Cobra with equal drivers.

I threw that out there because the new 2011 5.0 engine WEIGHS THE SAME AS THE GT500! It is not lighter, for starters. It has 88 less HP stock. And a less potential motor. EOLSON shoudn't believe that they can hang with the GT500. On top of that the GT500 will have had 4 years to be modded out.

The 03/04 Cobras had 4 years to be modded before the GT500s came out. When the 500s came out, guys thought they would be the end all of HP...and Cobras were stompin 'em up...because they had 4 years of modding to cars that were just coming to the market with no mods available. Sound familiar?

I completely agree.

However, in the short term that the GT500 has been out, the aftermarket is really catching up.

I would still think a 60-70HP advantage would even out a couple hundred lbs. But, again , speeds past 120 aero takes effect, and doing a 2nd to 4th run, the Cobra wins in the aero. dept.

I still think people need to give more credit to GT500's. They are not piggs. They will stomp GT's, even with S/C's with good driving behind the GT500.

I agree with this...people call them pigs because they weigh so much. But everyone who's been in mine are surprised at how much roomier they are than the cobras, how good they handle, and how quickly you can add HP. I'm happy with what I got. Though I must admit admit that I am envious of the '11 GT500!

You guys are both missing the big picture here, and that is any run of the mill 3v GT can smoke both of your cars any day with nothing more than simple bolt ons an a good axle back. Just ask anyone in the S/S section

The idea that a 3920lb, 540HP GT500 will "stomp" a fit out 3560lb SC'd GT is laughable.

The magazines make it very clear. A stock GT has better cornering g-force and agility time than a GT500, and a fit out GT with full suspension and SC with 10lbs boost and good tune can easily produce 520HP.

I've gotten into with various GT500s, and my car on the street accelerated and grips better and is far faster on corners. Erik

The 2011 GT will weigh 3605lbs as opposed to the GT500's 3920lbs. Regardless of the engines weight, the 2011 will be 315lbs lighter than the GT500, and have a far better front/rear weight ratio.

In any other activity other than straight line drag racing with drag radials on, a fit out 2011 will out perform any GT500 in 0-60 (better grip off line), cornering, acceleration out of corners, and breaking (lighterweight). It has better aerodynamics, and when bolt on modded will be able to reach 450HP most likely. Much more efficient power to weight and usable street HP. Erik
